Every 4 1/2 minutes a child is born with a birth defect, and it is the leading cause of infant deaths.  Sadly, there is not enough attention on prevention and education.  I would know, my son, Shawn, is one of those children, we felt so hopeless and lost during his three life threatening surgeries in his first year of of life. I decided to dedicate my life to doing what I could to prevent another family going through what we did without education, hope, and help.  My way of doing this was to start a non-profit called Shawn's Anomaly and raise awareness by going from an overweight smoker to Ironman triathlete.

The Ironman World Championship Triathlon in Kona, HI (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike race, & 26.2 mile run all in same day) is known as the toughest one day event in the world. Qualifying to get into this event is very difficult, but every year the World Triathlon Corporation invites athletes with inspirational stories to complete in event since the Ironman mantra is "Anything is Possible"

I am an average athlete that will never qualify to get into this event, but I made a commitment in 2010 that I would do whatever I could to complete the Ironman World Champion in Kona, HI in honor of my son's recovery to become, "Shawn's Ironman"!

I want to do this for not only my son, but for all children and families out there that have been affected with congenital anomalies.  I can't get there without your help.  Please invite all your friends to bookmark this page so they can be reminded daily to vote for my video submission to the Ironman "Kona Inspired" contest.  Together we can prove that "Anything is Possible"!

Thank you in advance for your support!
